I’ve been looking at getting a speaker dock for my iPod Touch for a while but after getting other accessories that didn’t work with the Touch hadn’t got round to getting any. In the end I got some Altec Lansing IM600 InMotion speakers
for my birthday earlier this month. It works great with the iPod Touch and is far better than I thought. I was just looking for a speaker dock to have downstairs but the IM600 also doubles as a portable iPod speaker system and has internal rechargeable batteries. Had it outside for our first barbecue and they work a treat. Comes with a range of fittings to suit any iPod too.
The only issue I’ve found is sometimes the iPod rests against the speaker and starts to vibrate with the sound but it’s easily sorted by just lifting the iPod forward. All in all very happy with them and made up with the sound quality.

Got up this morning and fancied getting out for a bit of fresh air before starting the days jobs. Don was still in bed so had a cuppa and watched a bit of snowboarding on the box before digging out the trainers. A quick blast of Fabreeze and I was ready. I thought about heading out in the car and going for a run in the hills but decided that if I wanted to go for runs more regularly it had to be easy and from the doorstep. Left the house and ran down to Douglas promenade. It was a great morning to get my first run in, not a breath of wind, overcast and mild with views out over the sea to the single ray of sunshine breaking through on the horizon. I took my iPod Touch for the journey which was a bit bulky and bounced around the whole trip. Just sold my Nano on eBay, typical to find a use for it now! Don might not notice if her iPod Shuffle goes missing in the week…
Hit Douglas beach with the other dog walkers and the odd jogger and followed it over to the old Summerland building. I really hope something is developed here soon. It would be a great spot to put a sports facility to offer kids an alternative to the traditional sports at the NSC. Skateboarding, climbing, BMX, Indoor skiing??, Ice skating. Lets hope a bit of forward thinking goes into whatever is developed there. Anyway there was an older dude out running and I couldn’t catch up so I ran along the other side of the road for a bit so I didn’t feel quite so unfit.
I took a detour on the way back around the back of Promenade T Shirts and up past the entrance to the old funicular railway that ran up to the Falcon Cliff hotel. Although not really steep, by this stage of my run heart-rate was pretty heavy so didn’t get much pace going up the hill. Came out just below Shoprite on Victoria Road and cut back to Broadway and home. Didn’t time it but I reckon it was probably around 30-40mins.
Hopefully start to get out a bit more often now. Makes you appreciate what we’ve got here on the Island. To be in the capital and to be able to go on such a beautiful run. This was only a short run but if I get my fitness back then there’s Douglas Head and the Marine Drive Coast road round to Port Soderick. The bike’s almost ready to come out too so will get a couple of longer routes in then.

I’m pretty pleased with the recent downloads from Apple for the iPod Touch, particularly the mail application. A bit disappointed that the downloads come with new iPod touches only days after Christmas when most will have been sold and cost £12.99 for people who got or bought these over Christmas. Clever?? marketing and timing from Apple! Continue reading

Well first audio book and latest! I’ve been listening to The Cluetrain Manifesto
by Christopher Locke, Rick Levine, Doc Searls and David Weinberger on my iPod rather than sticking it on random as I usually do. I’m gutted I haven’t read this book earlier. Definitely one I’d recommend.
What I can’t work out is whether I’d rather read the book or listen to it. It took a little while to get used to Dick, who is the American reading my book to me but now that I’ve got over that barrier I’m quite liking the whole story telling thing. I guess it’s safer than reading an actual book on my walk home from work but then again when I’m off in some parallel world expanding on some point that’s just been talked about in my head it’s probably equally as dangerous, if not more. The lights may look on but I doubt there’s anyone in at those points. And I guess on that point, when you get distracted or sidelined on a thought there is no pausing. Dick doesn’t wait for me.. he just carries on and expects me to catch up. To me that is the biggest downside of being read to by Dick. I can’t pause and think and then carry on at my own pace.
