Ballafesson to Sloc loop run

Running TrainersTo up the game a little in our training for the Adventure Race at the end of the month John suggested we stretch ourselves and take on Surby to Sloc. I was mega apprehensive about this as the run out of Ballafesson up through Surby is long and steep, certainly the hardest thing I’ve faced so far in my training by quite a long way. The route is also nearly twice as far as I’ve done up until this point so was always going to be a challenge.

Nick joined us on the bike as well which was good for support and motivation to keep running. He also nipped home ahead of us and put the pasta on so an extremely valuable team member on the day.

The weather was perfect and the views from up on top of Surby Hill were awesome. Makes you really appreciate the Isle of Man when 30 minutes after leaving work you can be in the middle of nowhere overlooking stunning coastline with not a sound beyond an over exercise heart and panting breath. Not only that but it was strange to think that only 15 miles away the world’s greatest motorbike race was taking part.

I think we were both really pleased with the run. We had to walk in a couple of sections where it was really pushing us but hopefully next time we do this we’ll get round without this. Having said that this really was only in a couple of sections and I had anticipated me having to walk much more so was absolutely made up. Still a way to go before the race but a great confidence boost that at least I should make it to the finish line now:)

Picked up a couple of small blisters on the downhill section that have shown themselves a bit more today but nothing too bad. Weekend off and then back on it next week.
