50m kayaking in a pool badge!
Unfortunately nothing to sew on to my speedos! Had another good kayaking session in Peel swimming pool with Keirron and Adventurous Experiences. Despite my initial expectations to be rolling first time in I’ve realised there’s a fair bit more to kayaking than sunny day paddling.
Started the session with a broom handle as a paddle to identify bad techniques and then moved into edging, low brace and high brace techniques. Finding the hardest thing is relaxing and committing to a manouvre. I think it is the fear of the unknown! How far is too far? Will I be able to right myself if I get over? Worst is I go upside down in a swimming pool and pull the chord or do a self rescue but irrationally it feels a much bigger deal. Really want to get in again and just keep going through the low and high brace until I feel totally confident with it. I’m sure trying it in the sea at this time of year adds an extra dimension to this too!!!
Can’t wait until I get the hang of it as I think once you know you can sort yourself out if you go over without taking in water a lot of these worries of edging too far will go. Unlike before going into this I really want to get the technique right too. Before I think I just wanted to roll, right myself and that would be me happy. The thought being able to get out on a rougher day and still feel confident that I could sort myself out is really inspiring. Loving it.
